The Power of Friendship and Positive Thinking
This Christmas, because of professional commitments, I cancelled my 3 week holiday in Phuket.
A single woman (widowed for nearly 4 years), without any living relatives, I was not minded to impose myself on families who had already made their own arrangements.
So I opted to spend this period on my own and make the most of it! One of my dear mentees (and friend), Federico, once said that my caption should be: ‘Keep on going’ – and that is precisely what I did.
Rather than wallow in sadness about Being Home Alone, I decided to give myself some treats and use the time positively.
The treats consisted of some Lanson Champagne (from my late father’s cellar), caviar – a gift from a friend – and the best of all: time to think about the future plans for my new business as Dr Catherine Dating Guru.
I do not know about you, but I have ‘enjoyed’ some family Christmases which ultimately resulted in some very heavy rows. Christmases can be a like a pressure cooker – where emotions like resentment, jealousy, frustration come up to the boil and … explode. I am delighted to have been relieved of these forced occasions of fake joviality. In France, there is a slogan : ‘il vaut mieux être seul que mal accompagné’ (it is better to be alone than in bad company).
Having taken the decision to spend Christmas day on my own, I was blessed by a number of texts of good will from literally all over the world -and an impromptu visit by the above mentioned Federico and his delightful girlfriend, Maria – on their way to a late Christmas lunch.
What more can a girl ask for, until she finds her Mr Right?
